Sheffield's Finest Charity Shops
DO NOT let a lack of money prevent you from going shopping.
Feature
Now, we know what you're thinking: why oh why would you actively look to spend your money on the invariable crap that finds its way onto the shelves at Barnardo's? Well, we'll tell you. Because one person's crap is another person's gem (don't you ever listen to your Gran?)
Traversing the revolving clothes stands, dodging the oblivious grannies and grappling for the least dusty copy of that slightly silly-sounding book that you think your mate might like is the fun part.
The epicentre of Sheffield's charitable shops is Eccleshall Road, a haven to the swish and student alike. Sandwiched between bistros and cake emporiums, stereo centres and bridal boutiques, you'll find a cacophany of second-hand stuff through which to rifle.
Take your pick from Oxfam, AgeUK, The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, which disect the main vein to the heart of the city centre and provide ample distraction from the High Street.
After a wander of anywhere between 5 mins and 2 hours, we emerged into the rare sight of British sunshine carrying three books, a 'new' satchel and some candles for the Mrs (what a gent).
Sometimes a little's a lot. Charity shops give you that added benefit of doing something productive and profound simply by unzipping of your wallet/purse. Go forth, Shop, be charitable.
