Sundays in Sheffield

Thankfully, Sundays aren't often bloody Sundays in Sheffield, unless the previous evening witnessed the two rival footie teams beating each other into a pulp.

So if mindless, inebriated violence isn't your thing, why not check out the delights this fair city has to offer? You still may not be able to buy a pint of milk after four in your local supermarket, but when there are Bison Grass Mojito's (Vodka Revolution, Fitzwilliam Street, 0114 275 6762)to drink, who needs milk anyway?

Places to go if you've had a Saturday night in... and you want to get drunk:

The Cavendish (228-238 West St, 0114 252 5781) is always a den of debauchery, day and night. If pissed-up students aren't your thing, then head to the Brown Bear (109 Norfolk St, 0114 272 7744). Not only is it the oldest pub in Sheffield, but its clientele have been drunk at the bar for so long that they're glad to welcome a fellow alcoholic.

Places to go if you've had a Saturday night out...and you're a bit hungover:

Providing that your sickly constitution doesn't put you off leaving the house and your bed, head to Bungalows and Bears (The Old Fire Station, Division St, 0114 279 2901). Forgo the alcohol and have a pot of tea. The eclectic music is mellow enough to heal your buzzing head and nobody will mind if you have a little sleepy on the leather sofas.

Places to go if you miss your mum's roast:

 The Harley (334 Glossop Road) is becoming famous for its Sunday specials. Simple home cooked fare with all the trimmings, like Roast Beef for £6.95 will remind you of home faster than you can say Yorkie Puds. The surroundings are also cool enough to spend a lazy hour or two with the Harley's speciality gin. Mmmm, gin.

Places to go if you're fed up of Antiques Roadshow:

 Get down to the Showroom (Paternoster Row, 0114 275 7727) and watch a film. There is a selection of films for everyone, from the cultured connoisseur to the downright ignorant blockbuster buff.
