Pomona, The

In contrast to all the quiet pubs down Ecclesall Road this tacky music box attempts to generate a party atmosphere no matter what time of day it is. The numerous drinks offers –scrawled shamelessly over the walls –and the various DJ nights ensure the place is constantly packed with loud, easy students. The karaoke sessions are generally quite messy but are usually good fun even though 'Angels' and 'I Will Survive' seem to be sung on constant rotation. The hedonistic atmosphere doesn't quite reach the lows of an 18–30 holiday, but the drunken hormonal activity of the youngsters in here would still reduce their parents to tears if they saw what their offspring were doing with their hard–earned cash.
